Ecuador

The Blue-footed Boobies are the most seen and common birds in the Galapagos Islands, since it nests near the coasts in many of the Islands of this Archipelago and also feeds near its shores. They feed on fish and marine invertebrates that they catch in the water. They are excellent flyers, capable of reaching high speeds and taking advantage of air currents to travel.
The size of the blue-footed boobies is on average less than 3 feet long and their wingspan is around 5 feet. They weigh between 3 and 4 pounds, the female being larger than the male.

These birds have long necks and beautiful blue legs in the form of a cobweb. The feathers on the wings are brown and their head and neck are brown with black stripes. His chest and lower parts are white. The average life time for these seabirds is around 17 years.

Blue-footed boobies fly with their wings close to their body, and enter the water like a torpedo almost without splashing the water. After their first dive they swim underwater until they find their prey, and leave the water several meters beyond their initial dive with their prey.

The boobies are a protected species in the Galapagos Islands and it is estimated that about 40,000 birds of this species live in the Islands. The most important colonies of these birds are found on the Spanish island and North Seymour. Looking closely at these beautiful birds of the Galapagos Islands is truly a unique experience.
